  1. Interesting photo deck - certainly brings back memories. The Heladeria San Miguel now occupies what in the early 60s was both the town doctor's home and the only co-ed school in town, the Academia San Rafael, which I attended for a couple of years until the spanking new (also co-ed) Academia Miramar opened and I moved there (in both cases one had to travel to Malaga every June to do the official final exams at separate institutos for boys and girls as the schools were "unofficial"). The Academia Miramar added years of bachillerato that could be taken as the students progressed but this stopped at the end of 4° de bachiller in 1969 because only one student passed the comprehensive exams (revalida) needed to finish Bachillerato Elemental and progress to 5° and they logically couldn't add a year for only one student. Later many girls moved back to Medalla Milagrosa because the nuns later did add more levels (in those days they were just a primary school). Don Antonio Abril de Toledo who founded and owned Academia Miramar is now president of Emaus Obra de Amor (http://www.emausobradeamor.org) that runs food banks/soup kitchens in Torremolinos and several other locations around Malaga and Granada provinces.
